Fall biking on shared use trail in Manchester

submitted by Ray Berg

The Manchester Wellness Coalition continues to partner with the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation (5HF) in developing a variety of programs, classes, and infrastructure, wherein funding from 5HF and other sources is used to help Manchester area residents achieve four goals: move more, eat better, connect with others in healthy ways, and avoid unhealthy substances.

We are now in our 11th year of operation, and our 10th year of developing wellness programs for the benefit of all our community. Many individual volunteers and service organizations assist with this planning, and we meet monthly (currently by Zoom) to both initiate new projects and track progress on ongoing programs.

The 5HF Board has approved our planning budget for 2021, and has also initiated some changes in our process, including the development of Manchester-specific projects, and also regional projects in cooperation with the other 5HF communities. We are now asking for your recommendations on infrastructure ideas, healthy programs, and activities which will assist with our efforts in 2021 planning. If you have an idea or developed proposal which meets one or more of the four goals outlined above, we’d like to hear from you. You can e-mail ideas to Ray Berg at raymondmberg@gmail.com, or phone 248-765-9324. And you are also welcome to join our next Zoom meeting on Tuesday, April 27, 12:00 noon, at this link:

In addition, we currently have a Data Review Committee reviewing Manchester-specific responses to the completed 2020 Five Healthy Towns Survey, and the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment completed by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, with the goal of identifying areas needed priority attention.

We will appreciate your input as we move forward in Spring 2021!
