As the COVID-19 vaccine has become widely available including at area pharmacies, the Washtenaw County Health Department is closing the the Pierce Lake Elementary mass-vaccination site in Chelsea on May 25. They are continuing to hold pop-up vaccination clinics in Western Washtenaw, however, including one on Thursday, May 27 from 3 to 6:30 pm at the Manchester Jr./Sr. High School, located at 20500 Dutch Drive.

The pop-up clinic will be open to anyone 12+ and both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available. Anyone 12 years and older can receive the Pfizer vaccine, which is two doses. Those 18+ can choose the Johnson and Johnson, which is one dose. Appointments are preferred, but a limited number of walk-up vaccines will be available during clinic hours. Schedule at http://bit.ly/48158vax

Whether getting vaccinated at the Manchester pop-up clinic or somewhere else, anyone under 18 years old needs to be accompanied by a parent or guardian when getting vaccinated. Identification is not required for adolescents, as long as the parent or guardian attests to age. Anyone getting vaccinated should eat about an hour before vaccination and stay hydrated with water or non-caffeinated beverages. There is no cost to individuals for the vaccine.

“Parents should take this opportunity to vaccinate their 12- to 15 year-old children against COVID-19. Doing so will prevent their child from being infected with COVID-19 while participating in summer activities, prevent transmission to other family members and friends, and protect the health of the broader community,” says Laraine Washer, MD, Medical Director of Infection Control at Michigan Medicine.
