On Friday, the village received approval from the state to establish a social district in downtown Manchester.

"Now, we must hustle to get ready," said Village President Pat Vailliencourt.

Before the next DDA meeting on June 16, it is expected that the signage required within the district will be ready for DDA approval, in order to get the district established in time for when licensees begin to receive approval from the state liquor control commission.

Current liquor licensees can now complete applications for the permit for review and approval by Village Council. Once approved, the Licensee can submit the approval, along with required State fees, to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.

The Manchester DDA will accommodate and arrange Social District and Commons Area marketing materials, business listings, and communications regarding each business, revising participating business listings as often as required. Social District Permit Holders are responsible for supplying their own Social District Permit Containers.

Social District Permit Holders are responsible for educating and informing their staff, employees, and patrons regarding the rules, regulations, and operating procedures of the Downtown Manchester Social District. Permit holders are also responsible for cleaning their storefronts and public right-of-way surrounding their business, ensuring the Downtown Manchester Social District is a clean and safe environment.

The Village Council has received at least one application for approval at the June 7 meeting. Once at least two applications are approved by the state, the Social District and Commons Area can be opened to the public.

"Great job, everyone!" Vailliencourt said. "It's going to be an awesome summer for Manchester!"
