CRC director Laura Seyfried accepts the first 20-pound bag of ground beef for the food pantry from Mason Horning at Horning Farms in Freedom Township.

Help Horning Farms "MEAT" their current goal of helping the community!

For a donation of just $5, you can contribute a pound of ground beef to Manchester's Community Resource Center and each pound donated by you will be matched by Horning Farms, up to 150 pounds. So your $5 donation actually is providing two pounds of meat to the local food pantry, and the total donation will be 300 pounds.

"When we sell processed beef, naturally we sell all the steaks and roasts first," explains Mason Horning, who runs the farm shop out at Horning Farms. "And that means we have a lot of surplus ground beef left over. It's something we can give back to the community and get other people involved a bit, too."

After some family discussion, it was evident to the Hornings that the CRC was the best way to help out locally.

"This first 300 pounds is the max we can supply right now, but in the future we can definitely get to the point again, of donating more," Mason said. "It's a win-win situation for everyone." He adds that they got the idea from fellow dairy farmers who did a similar program over the holiday season last year and ended up maxing out their donation quickly. And although this initiative is still quite new, the farm has already donated its first 20 pounds to the CRC.

To donate, just go to the farm's website and fill out how many pounds you would like to contribute. They will take it from there!

Laura Seyfried, CRC Director, says, "The Community Resource Center appreciates our ongoing partnerships with local businesses and community members, especially when bringing locally produced foods to our pantry customers who may not otherwise have access to these choice products. Thank you to Horning Farms and the donors for providing this opportunity to help our neighbors in Manchester when they need it most!"
