Barbara Jean Humitz (January 24, 1939 - August 30, 2021)

Barbara Jean Humitz, 82, passed away August 30, 2021.  Barbara’s family and friends will gather on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes - Manchester Chapel.  A private interment of ashes will take place at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights on September 9, 2021.

She was born on January 24, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to Bert and Lucille (Myles) Roffina.  Barbara married the love of her life, Gerald Humitz Sr., on October 21, 1961, in Dearborn, Michigan. After graduating from the University of Michigan with both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nursing, Barbara spent many years teaching at Madonna University as well as Wayne State University.  She was a long-time member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.  After retiring from teaching, she continued to work with Washtenaw County in staff development.  Her family will remember her as “pajama grandma” as she loved to sew pajamas for all the grandchildren.  She was also a wonderful knitter who volunteered her time with the “Chain Gang” in Manchester where they knit blankets for premature infants in the hospital.  Barbara loved puzzles and reading in her spare time.

Barbara will be missed by her husband, Gerald; her children, Chip (Beth) Humitz of Plymouth, MI; Mark (Jackie) Humitz of Traverse City, MI; and Greg (Mary) Humitz of Dexter, MI; a sister Kathy Neff of Royal Oak, MI; grandchildren Dylan Humitz; Patricia Chiado; Cailey Humitz; Andrew Humitz; and Ally Humitz; and great grandchildren John Chiado and Piper Chiado. She is preceded in death by a sister, Juleen Lumetta.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kiwanis International Foundation.  Please leave a message of comfort for Barbara’s family or sign her guestbook at www.EinederFuneralHomes.com.
