Your neighbors and friends ask for your support for a local cause by contributing and/or walking 1-3 miles around the community on October 3, 1-3 pm for the annual CROP Walk. This event will start at the Manchester United Methodist Church, 501 Ann Arbor Street on Sunday, October 3 at 1 pm.

Your support through your church, school, or direct donations helps causes right here in Manchester, across the nation, and around the world! The dangers of Covid and the weather have expanded the requirement for us to help those in food need right here in Manchester, in Michigan, around America, and the world.

CROP Walk in 2021 will follow Covid-19 safety guidelines, which means walkers need to commit and follow 6 feet or more social distance; mask wearing is optional and dogs are welcome! Also, if volunteers are worried about safety they can walk on their own and still support the cause.

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations and groups to raise funds to reduce hunger at home and around the world. A Manchester CROP Walk has been held every year for 1995 — a total of 26 years — and local contributors have raised more than $135,000 for this important charity. Thank you!!

A significant portion of the funds raised by the local CROP WALK program stays here to support local programs run by the Community Resource Center (CRC), Manchester Family Services (MFS) and the Manchester Area Senior Citizens Council. In addition, funds from previous community-sponsored Church World Service CROP Hunger Walk events went to help the people hurt in the recent hurricanes.

Last year there were 29 walkers here in Manchester, and we raised $3,950. Each local CROP Hunger Walk can choose to return up to 25 percent of the funds it raises to hunger-fighting programs in its own community. Since the start of the program in Manchester, the local contribution has been divided among charities which provided important local activities, including the Community Resource Center, Manchester Family Services, and Manchester Senior Citizens.
