Manchester District Library (MDL) will observe two month-long celebrations during October: Michigan Library Appreciation Month and TeenTober.

Michigan Library Appreciation Month is a statewide observance sponsored by the Michigan Library Association (MLA) and libraries of all types across the state. Its purpose is to highlight the valuable ways in which libraries and library staff across the state have been keeping communities connected to resources and content that informs, entertains, and enlightens. MDL patrons can participate in two ways:

  1. Online: share a Facebook post about the library services you appreciate most of all — using the hashtags #MILibraryMonth and #LoveMILibraries — and tag @ManchesterDistrictLibrary.

  2. In person: Stop by the library to fill out an "I love my library because ..." card, (available at the circulation desk) for us to share and post around the library!

TeenTober is a nationwide celebration created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) — a division of the American Library Association — and hosted by libraries every October to celebrate teens and highlight library teen services. This year, MDL will celebrate TeenTober with a special collection of Halloween-themed reads in the Teen Spot. New titles will appear all month long, so stop by often for everything from mild thrills to frights to keep you up all night.

Teens can also paint pumpkins at the library on October 28 at 5 pm; call (734) 428-8045 to register. Finished pumpkins can either be taken home or remain at the library until October 31, when they will be entered into a crowd favorite voting contest during the Halloween festivities at Wurster Park. MDL and the MDL Friends of the Library will also distribute free books in the tradition of All Hallow’s Read.

Manchester District Library (MDL) is proud to serve the Village of Manchester, Manchester Township, Bridgewater Township, and Freedom Township. Village of Clinton and Clinton Township residents are also eligible for MDL library cards and welcome to use all MDL resources.

Current Manchester District Library hours are Monday-Thursday 11 am - 7 pm, Friday 11 am - 6 pm, and Saturday 10 am - 2 pm. The most up-to-date hours and the latest news are always available on the MDL website.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
