On August 3, 2020, Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express (WAVE) launched a free shuttle bus service on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Manchester and Chelsea, sponsored by St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea. This month they expanded the free shuttle bus service to five days a week and door-to-door service!

Effective October 1, 2021, WAVE is now operating a door-to-door bus programs fare-free there and back between Manchester and Chelsea within three miles of village centers, Monday - Friday from 8 am to 4:15 pm.

WAVE buses are open to everyone who needs a ride with or without a disability or age status. To reserve a ride, call (734) 475-9494, Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4:15 pm. If your call is directed to WAVE’s voicemail system, leave your name and telephone number and a dispatcher will return your call when available.

Rides on the door-to-door bus are shared rides to keep fares free. Make reservations as early as possible. Same-day reservations are sometimes available but advanced reservations are encouraged because of seating and schedule constraints. Reservations can be made several weeks ahead of appointments.

Do you have questions about the shuttle bus service or suggestions for how WAVE could improve transportation access for Manchester residents? In honor of 45 years of service, WAVE is meeting in person with residents of the communities they serve this week. They will be in Manchester on Thursday, October 28th from 3 to 6 pm at Acorn Farmers' Market and Café, located inside of Manchester Market at 455 West Main Street.

Public transportation is important in making our area equitable, our environment fresh, connecting people to jobs, recreation, and health care, while supporting local businesses. Stop by on Thursday and let them know your thoughts!

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
