Letter to the editor: Changes to the Leonard Preserve MiOFO controlled hunt this year

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Dear Manchester Residents,

Please note the changes in the Michigan Operation Freedom Outdoors (MiOFO) controlled hunt in Leonard Preserve.

Due to our location we have regular contact with the preserve steward. The latest study encouraged an expanded hunt zone as a result of deer overpopulation in the Preserve. While there are some signs posted, we would like to help create extra awareness of the controlled hunt and the changes in the hunt zone this year. Many locals access the Preserve to run or hike from less known access points that do not have a signboard like the entrance off Union Street. The new hunt zone is near many trails including those immediately accessed through unofficial entrances. While we have confidence in MiOFO and their wonderful cause of helping vets and the disabled, we would like to create extra awareness of the change for the safety of all. The expanded hunt zone is on the east side of Hillside Trail, just north of the rail trail off Beaudoin Prairie.

We hope you all enjoy the beauty (in bright clothes) in our Manchester backyard with awareness of the expanded MiOFO controlled hunt zones November 15-30.

Kind regards,

The Kippnick Family
