Skunk cabbage poking through the snow

Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation will be holding a sunrise nature hike in Watkins Lake State Park & County Preserve on Tuesday, March 8 from 8:30-10 am. The hike will be led by Parks Naturalist, Elle Bogle.

Winter is slowly winding down. Red-winged blackbirds are starting to return, skunk cabbages are poking through the ice, and the Earth is starting to awaken from her long sleep. Come hike and discover what’s happening in the world around us as we start heading into spring. Watkins Lake parking lot is located at 14801 Arnold Road. A State Rec Passport is required for parking. Trails may be muddy, so boots are advised. Pre-registration required. Email boglee@washtenaw.org to register.
