If you’re ready to get outside and be more involved in native habitats, the perfect chance is coming up at Hidden Lake Gardens on Saturday, April 9 from 1 to 4 pm. The Grand-Raisin Conservation Community (GRCC) will be hosting its annual kick-off event there to start the season with opportunities to connect to the natural world and the people we share it with. Networking and refreshments start at 12:30 pm. There is no fee for the event. The entrance fee to Hidden Lake Gardens will be waived when you specify you are attending this event.

All places have a living and breathing spirit, the sum of their history expressed in the present. Believing this sense of place enjoys near universal sympathy, the GRCC is hosting its annual kick-off event to explore this connection. The afternoon will include three parts: 1) we will introduce a calendar of the workshops our partners hold throughout the year; 2) we will introduce and seek input on a pilot project in partnership with The Stewardship Network and the Michigan Natural Features Inventory that explores the natural underpinnings of our sense of place and 3) a hike into the natural areas of Hidden Lake Gardens to illustrate the interplay between human disturbance and natural evolution.

Visit the event page at stewardshipnetwork.org/event/grand-raisin-spring-kick-off/ to register.

By registering you will help us with our planning. Registration is not required, so just show up if you can. If you do register, we will send you a reminder and any updated information a few days before the event. We will not share your email.

This hike will be mostly on-trail but with some uneven ground and rolling terrain – it is not wheelchair, walker, stroller, or wagon friendly. Wear hiking footwear and dress for the weather. In case of inclement weather, the hike may be cancelled, postponed, or rescheduled.

The GRCC is the local affiliate of The Stewardship Network, composed of a spectrum of land stewards working in the headwater areas of the Grand and Raisin watersheds in parts of Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee and Washtenaw Counties. Our aim is to empower our neighbors to manage natural lands in ways that complement historic ecosystems. Our strategy is to provide information and opportunities to help everyone understand the value of native habitats and how the GRCC and its partners can help you preserve and protect them in a way that is suited to your interests. As a network, we rely on our relationships with each other to meet changing management challenges throughout our area.
