Editors note: While U.S. Rep. Dingell was initially a resident in the former District 6, after the new districts were created, she relocated to Ann Arbor and now is a resident in new District 6.

How does this happen in America?

Manchester is now in District 6.

How does one family control a House of Representative seat for almost 9 decades? John Dingell Sr. held the Congressional seat for 22 years. John David Dingell Jr. held his congressional seat from John Dingell Sr. death to 2014 for 59 years. Debbie Dingell has held the same seat since his death. That is 89 years in office for one family. The idea that our founding fathers had was that we would have no professional politicians. You would do your civic duty for a few years and go back to your “real” job.

We need new blood with new ideas in our Congress. I do not know of any profession that a spouse is qualified for their spouse’s job except in the private sector. There has been a realignment of the districts and Manchester is now in Debbie Dingell’s District. I pray that we have the common sense to find another Democrat candidate to represent our district. Now in all honesty I am not currently a Democrat although I have voted Democrat in the past. I am looking forward to a time that our Congress has an approval rating over 22% with the American People. It is obvious that by re-electing the same tired old crowd it will just keep falling.

Social Security says people may qualify for full retirement at the age of 70. Congresswoman Dingell is now 69. Her husband died at 92. Does Debbie Dingell plan on being in office for another 22 years? Now don’t tell me she needs the money. Her net worth is over $8 million in 2019.
