WCRC roadwork this week

Starting on Monday, May 23, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will begin a preventative maintenance chip seal project on Pleasant Lake Rd. between Schneider Rd. and Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. in Freedom and Lodi Townships, and Parker Rd. between Pleasant Lake Rd. and Scio Church Rd on the border of Freedom and Lodi Townships. The roads will not be closed, but delays are likely due to lane restrictions. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.

The work on these roads is expected to be completed within approximately two days. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions. Once the chip seal work is completed, drivers are advised to lower their speeds to 35 mph while the stone settles. WCRC will return to this area in a few weeks to apply a fog seal on top of the chip seal and place permanent pavement markings.

In addition, Buss Road in Manchester Township between the county line and Lamb Road will have daytime road closures this week for gravel resurfacing.

Unpaved roads throughout Sharon Township will have a rolling dust-control operation starting this week through June 17th.

If you have any questions, please contact Ken Harris, superintendent of maintenance, (734) 327-6696 or via email at harrisk@wcroads.org.

Chip seal season is here! Chip seal is a great tool for the WCRC to keep good roads in good condition by applying what is essentially sunscreen to the road. Typically, chip seal extends the service life of a road by 3 to 5 years.
