The Washtenaw County Democratic Party is hosting an online panel for candidates for the non-partisan and currently vacant District Court position in District 14A, which includes the Manchester area and will appear on Manchester area general election ballots in November. Before the District court panel, there will be a panel for candidates for the District 2 seat on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners which does not include the Manchester area. The panels will occur on July 20, from 7 to 8:45pm over Zoom.

The 14A District Court hears cases for all of Washtenaw County except the city of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Township. District courts are responsible for hearing cases involving small claims, traffic, landlord/tenant issues, civil matters under $25,000, and misdemeanor criminal charges.

The nonpartisan candidates for judge of District Court 14A are Fawn Armstrong, Karl A. Barr, Stuart M. Collis, and Torchio Feaster.

Fawn Armstrong is an assistant prosecuting attorney for Washtenaw County and has held that position for 10 years. Karl A. Barr is the assistant city attorney for Ypsilanti, a position he has held for 20 years; he is also in private practice with the Barr Anhut and Associates law firm. Stuart M. Collis is an attorney in private practice who has appeared in most of the Michigan district courts as well as federal courts; he is also a mediator in Washtenaw, Jackson, and Oakland Counties. Torchio Feaster is an assistant public defender in Washtenaw County.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates. Questions may also be submitted before the meeting to Eli Nathans, the moderator, at enathans48103@gmail.com
