Dana Andrews resigns from Village Council; replacement trustee sought

Dr. Dana Andrews has been active in the Manchester community in a variety of ways over the years. He is stepping down from Village Council to focus more time on his family.
On September 20, 2022, Village Council Trustee Dana Andrews, who has served on the Council since October 2011, submitted his letter of resignation as a Village Councilor for the Village of Manchester.
“His presence on Village Council will be missed,“ said Michael Sessions, Village Manager.
Council is responsible, based on the General Law Village Act, to appoint a new member to Village Council who will serve until the next regular village election, which normally would be this fall, November 8, 2022. However, it is too late to get on the ballot for this election; therefore, the newly-appointed Council member will serve until November, 2024.
Candidates are required to be a village elector. An elector is defined as someone 18 years of age, who is a U.S. citizen and has lived at least 30 days in the village for which they will serve. Other qualifications for prospective candidates would be an availability and commitment to attend twice-monthly meetings (first and third Mondays, 7pm) and occasional special meetings; an active interest in and familiarity with the Village; a history of involvement in the community; and a willingness to serve on an additional board or commission where Council representation is deemed necessary.
Interested candidates should submit a resume to the village office by 4:30pm on Monday, October 24. Applications received after that time will be unable to be considered. The appointment will be made at Council’s November 7 meeting, based on resumes received by Oct. 24, and interviews will be conducted at the Nov. 7 meeting prior to the final decision being made.
Over the past 11 years, Andrews says he has “learned a lot“ from being on Council. Not only about how the village works but how efficiently and successfully its operations have been conducted. Along with running his business, he’s also been active in a variety of other organizations, including acting as emcee for the Community Resource Banquet, the Crazy Ca$h Night event, and Manchester Co-op Preschool auctions and events. He’s been involved in bed races, youth sports, and many other community activities.
Several of Andrews’ co-workers at the village mentioned that he will be missed. “I particularly enjoyed the humor and humility with which Dana approached his position,” said Village Clerk Julie Schaible.
“The thing I will miss most about Dana is how he provided Council a different perspective on how to look at something,” said Pat Vailliencourt, Village President. ”His input was valuable during discussions pertaining to the many decisions Council must make that affect our community. He will be very difficult to replace.“
Fellow Trustee Marty Way added, “Some things (discussed at Council) are just not cookie-cutter topics. He always made good points.”
If you have an interest in helping to continue the important work being done by Village Council, don’t hesitate to brush up your resume and drop it off at the Village Office by 4:30pm on Monday, October 24.
