Letter to the Editor: Thank You!

December 11, 2022
To the Editor:
A light snow overnight — a good reason to stay in bed a little longer. But the alarm went off at 7am and soon after we were on our way to the Riverside School Cafeteria for our annual Lions Kids’ Christmas, which has enveloped our every waking minute of thinking for the last couple of weeks.
Lights on, Christmas music playing, making hot water for the hot chocolate (and coffee), and running around like the Mad Hatter; finally we were ready for the families to arrive. With only minutes to go there were only a handful of volunteers onsite. Were the others taking their long winter’s nap? We would make do, as we always had, but many hands make light work and make it much more enjoyable.
As the clock struck the half hour a host of volunteers arrived, calling, “What can I do?“ along with our first Christmas kids. Eventually over 20 volunteers showed up, spending several hours of their time working with us, smiling while they did it. Your generosity not only benefited us, but the almost 20 kids and families who participated, to give them just a little bit nicer Christmas.
The coolest thing about this is that this situation is not an isolated incident. I am constantly amazed by those who are willing to give their time and talents to support their community. Our hearts are full of gratitude for the wonderful volunteers we have in Manchester. THANK YOU!
Barry & Peggy Allen
