MCS Student Art Show returning!
by Sara Swanson
After a hiatus for COVID, the Manchester Community Schools Art Show is returning!
The 2022–2023 Art Show will be open for viewing Monday, April 24, through Friday, April 28, at the Manchester District Library, located at 912 City Rd, during their open hours. The art show will showcase a wide variety of projects created by each grade level, Young 5s–12th grade.
Isabella Lehrer is the young 5s–6th grade art teacher. She states, “From those grades you will see different projects, from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, and many different mediums we have worked throughout the year. Along with that you will see special techniques students have learned, as well as different artist inspirations. The art show is a wonderful opportunity for student creativity to be celebrated and for the community to see all the wonderful things we learn and create in the art room. Each student will have a piece on display (if applicable), so they individually have an opportunity to showcase their creative successes.”
Ann Townsend-Zhu is the 7th grade-12th grade art teacher. She explained, “Viewers will see a wide variety of media across these grades – both 2D and 3D. This includes tempera, watercolor, and acrylic paintings, charcoal and colored pencil on paper, plaster sculptures, mobiles, and much more. Student artwork is selected by me and Ms. Lehrer in an attempt to represent the hard work and achievement of as many art students in the district as possible. We may have to get very creative with the display!”
Come join in the celebration and recognition of the students’ creativity and handwork in the arts this school year. There will be a public reception on April 28 from 6pm to 8pm with light food and drink. Some of the artwork will be awarded prizes.
Lehrer concluded, “We are so excited to bring this wonderful event back to our students, and the community!”
