In November we reported that Food Gatherers, the food bank and food rescue serving Washtenaw County, had secured an $85,000 federal grant to extend homebound delivery and pop-up food distributions in Manchester and Milan, in partnership with the Community Resource Center (CRC) and a Milan organization, Aid in Milan. This grant allowed Aid in Milan to purchase a van and for the CRC to use it twice monthly.

Part of the plan from the beginning was to use the van to deliver groceries to the senior apartments, and for pop-up food pantries in the Townships to bring food to residents who might not be able to make it to stores or into the village to visit the food pantry regularly. And now, the first pop-up pantry is happening!

On May 18, from 11am to 1pm, the Manchester Community Resource Center Pop-up Pantry will be at Freedom Township Hall, located at 11508 E Pleasant Lake Rd. Call (734) 428-7722 to see if you qualify and to place an order before May 15 at 2:30pm. USDA income requirements apply.

Do you want to pick up food at this distribution point, but the time doesn’t work for you? Call the CRC at the number above and let them know. They are looking for feedback to decide on service times in the future.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
