Letter to the editor: We want a village
April 12, 2023
Letter to the Editor,
After reading the article on cityhood, after laughing, I was in disbelief. Happy to hear the city charter commission wrapped up its responsibilities. Can’t wait for the November 7 election. It goes on to mention quick approval. Well, I can’t wait for the election, so the people will show up in droves to vote this down.
If memory serves me correctly, and it does, Dexter made that mistake. It only took five years until Dexter had a millage increase in order to cover the cost of being a city, due to the necessary “bringing it up to code.” What a joke. Not funny.
I’m sure [the village manager] has many ideas brewing. Manchester is a village. We, myself included, want a village, not an October surprise like Dexter. Our lovely village is why people live here. So let’s not reinvent the wheel, and keep our village. I can see it coming, bringing our quaint village up to city code. Come on, our business district is about half a block long.
So, please, fellow neighbors, show up in unity and vote [against] this obscene push (just as they did for a new school and a bus repair garage with a heated floor). Let’s keep the village just that, a village.
Sincerely,
John D. Bagbey
Sharon Township
