Rachel Tierney, Manchester Community Schools’s Special Education Supervisor

submitted by Brad Bezeau, superintendent of Manchester Community Schools

It is with great excitement that we announce the hiring of our new Manchester Community Schools Special Education Supervisor, Rachel Tierney. Rachel worked with the district last year as our School Social Worker, and we look forward to her leadership in this critical area for us.

Her biography includes:

Rachel Tierney is a licensed clinical social worker and certified school social worker. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from New York University. She began her career in New York City in the ’90s working through various social service modalities: domestic violence, foster care, parenting education, clinical work with individuals and families, and school social work servicing emotionally impaired students.

Originally from a small town in Michigan, Ms.Tierney moved back to Michigan to raise her daughters and worked at Honey Creek Community School in Washtenaw County prior to taking the school social work position in Manchester last year. Working in Manchester and getting to know and build relationships with the wonderful staff, students, and families is one of the highlights of her career thus far. Ms. Tierney is very excited to move into the Special Education Supervisor role and continue to build strong relationships in service of our students.

Rachel Tierney’s hiring was approved by the Manchester Community Schools Board of Education on July 17, 2023. Please join us in welcoming Rachel to our Leadership, Instructional, and District Teams!
