MHS varsity wrestlers undefeated on their way to States

Manchester wrestlers finished their regular season with an undefeated 11–0 record in dual meets and are on their way to the State tournament. This year marks their 17th league title in a row, winning by 60 points and crowning 6 league champions: Onyx Ostrom at 113lbs, Sammy Stewart at 120lbs, Nathan Meyer at 138lbs, Blake Sloan at 150lbs, Gunner Carson at 175lbs, and Nathan Fletcher at 215lbs. Finishing second were Dylan Gauss at 285lbs; taking third was Adam Grebe at 144lbs; and rounding it out was Roy Aben at 106lbs, who placed fourth.

At Monroe on Wednesday, the Flying Dutch took their 19th consecutive district title. Saturday, February 17, Manchester hosted the individual district meet and placed an impressive 12 out of 14 wrestlers. District Champions included Onyx Ostrum at 113lbs, Sammy Stewart at 126lbs, Nathan Meyer at 138lbs, Blake Sloan at 144lbs, Gunner Carson at 175lbs, and Nathan Fletcher at 215lbs. Second place was captured by Vince Klapperich at 113lbs, Adam Grebe at 138lbs, and Bubba Duffing at 150lbs. In third, Manchester had Drake Neff at 165lbs and Dylan Gauss at 285lbs and also placing was Chase Conklin. 

On Wednesday’s march to the State Team tournament, the Dutch handily defeated New Lothrop 42–25 and then finished over Riverview Gabriel Richard 60–18. Onward now to K Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo this coming Friday, February 23, at noon — come out and support your local champs!

This season, several wrestlers crossed the milestone of 100 career wins: juniors Onyx Ostrom, Nathan Meyer, and Gunner Carson, and also sophomore Blake Sloan. Congrats to these student athletes and Manchester Wrestling as they finish their regular season with a 28–7 record and on their way to their third consecutive State Tournament. Coach Vlcek was awarded the Regional Coach of the Year, and for good reason!
