Democrat Morgan Foreman, former Constituent Services Director to Rep. Felicia Brabec (D-33rd District), announced her candidacy today for State Representative in Michigan’s 33rd District [which includes Bridgewater Township].

Foreman is running to succeed Brabec, who announced in March that she would not seek re-election to a third term and instead plans to run for State Senate in 2026.

“Someone like me was never meant to run for office,” said Foreman. “I don’t come from money, and I don’t have a lot of privileges or inherent power. But I do have a heart for the people. I’ve worked in and around local community spaces in Washtenaw County my entire life and gained invaluable experience working alongside Rep. Brabec in Lansing. I look forward to taking that passion and experience to Lansing to work for the people of southern Washtenaw County.”

Foreman has already been endorsed by the area’s current and most recent state representatives: incumbent Rep. Felicia Brabec and former Rep. Yousef Rabhi, who currently serves as a Washtenaw County Commissioner.

“It’s rare to have a candidate seeking office who has both the passion to develop policies that will help improve the everyday lives of the people they seek to serve and the experience to get it done — and Morgan Foreman is that candidate,” said Rep. Brabec. “Morgan has been a member of my legislative staff for the last three years, and I know that she will work diligently for our community.”

“I’ve had the opportunity to see Morgan in action in Lansing for years now, and she has proven her unwavering commitment to public service,” said Rabhi. “She knows this district from the countless hours she has spent helping constituents, crafting policy and budgets, and being present in this community at events. Her reputation as a public servant with a keen understanding of policy and community needs precedes her. Morgan’s ability to navigate both the halls of power and our local community has prepared her to hit the ground running on day one.”

Foreman’s priorities if elected to the legislature will include consumer protection, investing in K-12 education, and supporting seniors.

“I am proud of my work as a legislative staffer in the Michigan House of Representatives, but we have much more work to do, including protecting consumers, investing in quality education for all Michiganders, and promoting policies that help seniors age in place,” said Foreman.

“My experience serving our community and working in the legislature have positioned me to get things done for the people of Washtenaw County.”

Foreman is proudly pro-choice. She supports common-sense gun safety legislation. If elected, she will also support policies to protect clean water, move toward carbon neutrality, expand access to quality and affordable health care, protect workers’ rights, and secure Michiganders’ right to vote.

Foreman is a native of Washtenaw County. In addition to working as Rep. Brabec’s Constituent Services Director, Foreman previously worked as a K-12 paraprofessional, where she was a member of the Michigan Education Association (MEA). She also worked as a nonpartisan Get Out the Vote organizer for the Student Advocacy Center in Ann Arbor.

Foreman has been active in the local community. She has been a member of the Washtenaw County Democratic Party County Committee since 2020 and previously served on the Washtenaw County Brownfield Development Board, as a former treasurer of the Washtenaw County Black Caucus, and as an elected precinct delegate in Washtenaw County. In 2019, Foreman was named a NEW Leader of Color Fellow and graduated from the Michigan Educational Policy Fellowship Program in 2022. She is also a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program (MPLP).

Foreman and her husband live in Pittsfield Township with her dog, Rosie.

The 33rd House district includes southern Ann Arbor, the City of Saline, and portions or all of Pittsfield, Saline, Lodi, York, Bridgewater, and Scio townships.

The Democratic primary election is on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and the general election is on November 5, 2024.
