You may have noticed a new green bin near the Luther C. Klager Elementary School parking lot. What is up with this bin? It is in fact a new, year-round fundraiser that will help raise money for Klager!

Widad Luqman, principal of Klager Elementary and director of Manchester Early Childhood Center (housed in the same building), explained, “This bin comes to us from a locally operated recycling franchise that offers 24/7/365 community clothing and shoes recycling and fundraising for schools. This clothes bin partners with schools to keep textiles out of landfill and achieve a greener local environment by giving parents, students, and local neighbors a convenient place to recycle their unwanted clothing, shoes, and textiles in any condition, and the school can benefit year-round from the fundraising portion of the Clothes Bin Recycling Program!” She added that most schools earn around $1,000+ annually from this program, and that Klager plans to use funds raised through this program for club activities, teacher incentives, positive-student-behavior incentives, or other programs.

Luqman concluded, “So if you have lost [one of a pair of] shoes or socks, have torn or stained clothes, old rags, or any other unwanted items that would otherwise go to a landfill, we encourage you to place them in this bin. Thank you for helping us decrease our landfill waste and fundraising for our school.”
