On Friday, April 26, Klager hosted Around the World with Math and Science Night. Thanks to a passionate team of Klager and high school volunteers, families were treated to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning all around the world in the Klager cafeteria.

Children learned about the science of growing food in the Arctic, how they discovered popcorn in Peru, and how sorbet was invented in China. Children learned about technology with the help of the Klager K–12 robotics teams. They practiced their engineering skills by exploring K’Nex that were invented in the United States. Families were treated to an art show preview around the cafeteria. Children were also able to use their art skills to do a make and take and create notebooks, which were invented in Australia. They had the opportunity to apply their math skills as they learned how lollipops were invented in Spain. The biggest challenge came in the evening when high school students returned from last year to challenge the children to another round of Mancala, a math game created in Africa.

As a special treat, Title 1 was on hand to teach families about how to “read” around Michigan with children’s books written by authors from Michigan, as well as learn to read Michigan products. MI Future Funds was present to share information about planning and saving for college.

At the end of the night, the children voted for their favorite station. This year’s winner was the Robotics Teams!

A fun time was had by families of all ages at this interactive and engaging event.
