from Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development

The Washtenaw County Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) is currently recruiting general contractors. Over the next several years, OCED is participating in many affordable housing rehabilitation projects across Washtenaw County. The office is hoping to broaden their list of approved contractors and partner with new companies from across the region to increase affordable housing for residents.

OCED maintains a list of approved contractors to work on department-funded projects. The office is seeking licensed general and residential contractors to become approved contractors that will have the opportunity to bid on multi-family and single-family rehabilitation projects. Only those on the approved list of contractors may bid to work on projects.

OCED is hoping to expand their partners and encourages minority-owned, women-owned, and Section 3 businesses to apply. Contractors do not have to be based in Washtenaw County to be eligible, but all projects will be located in Washtenaw County.

Becoming an OCED-approved contractor gives businesses the opportunity to learn about federally funded construction projects and develop expertise in government work. Additionally, all of OCED’s federally-funded affordable housing projects under $500,000 are limited to those on OCED’s approved contractors list.

Any contractors interested in being included on the OCED approved contractors list must attend a mandatory contractor training on Tuesday, June 4th. Applications will not be considered if applicants do not attend the contractor training. Attendees have the option of attending this mandatory meeting either in-person or online. Please register for the meeting by May 31st at bit.ly/3WpUD0T (see below for meeting information).

Contractors must also complete and submit a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) ‘application’ that has been issued by the Washtenaw County Purchasing Department. Completed RFQ applications are due on June 13th at 3:30pm. The RFQ is numbered 8633 and can be found on the Washtenaw County Purchasing Dept. Website at this address: https://www.washtenaw.org/2431/Open-Bids

RFQ submissions can only be submitted via the Washtenaw County Purchasing Website. Contractors wishing to submit an RFQ should deliver an electronic response to this solicitation at the Open Bids website by using the “Submit A Proposal” button associated with RFQ #8633.

The mandatory Pre-Bid meeting will be on Tuesday, June 4th from 1:30 to 3pm in-person at Washtenaw County OCED, 415 W. Michigan Ave, Suite 2200 (Second floor), Ypsilanti, MI 48197; or online at www.zoom.us; enter Meeting ID: 862 8820 8283. Register by May 31st at bit.ly/3WpUD0T.
