On Monday, October 14, Damian’s Craft Meats made its initial presentation to Manchester City Planning Commission to obtain approval for its site plan at 789 Hogan Rd (southeast corner of Hogan and Sooten roads).

Principals Rosemary Linares and Damian Rivera propose to build a slaughterhouse and USDA-inspected meat-processing facility on the site, which encompasses 11.09 acres, currently zoned I-2 (General Industrial). Because the site is undeveloped and does not presently have water and sewer services connected, there have been issues in the past with desirability for sale. Fortunately, extensive discussions with the Michigan Economic Development Commission have proved fruitful and will assist the City with financing some of these amenities.

Site plan approval was granted by the Planning Commission and a public comment session was set for the October 21 meeting of  City Council. Comments were received by City planners Carlisle-Wortman & Associates and recommendations have been made accordingly, including the question of outside stalls (of which there will be none.) The Preliminary Site Plan Review for Damian’s Craft Meats was moved for approval by Cindy Dresch, seconded by Steven Harvey, and unanimously approved by all other council members in attendance (Chartrand and Way, absent).

Damian’s has now been invited to submit a final site plan for approval.
