The Community Resource Center (CRC) is pleased to announce it has received a $746 grant from the Manchester Wellness Coalition to continue its successful Wooden Nickel program at the Manchester Farmers Market this May. The program, funded through the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation, helps make fresh, local produce accessible to community members in need.
“This initiative creates a vital bridge between local farmers and families seeking nutritious food options,” says Carol Wotring, executive director at the Community Resource Center. “In 2024, we were able to serve 48 households, reaching 104 individuals in our community.”
Through the Wooden Nickel program, eligible households can receive up to $40 monthly in wooden tokens. These tokens can be used to purchase fresh produce, honey, eggs, herbs, and produce-producing plants from vendors at the Manchester Farmers Market. This dual-impact program not only improves access to healthy food options but also provides direct support to local farmers and vendors.
The 2025 Manchester Farmers Market season starts on Thursday, May 15 and is located downtown on Adrian Street.
The CRC extends its gratitude to both the Manchester Wellness Coalition and the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation for their continued support in making this program possible. Their commitment helps create a healthier, more connected community where good nutrition is accessible to all.
