Welcome to Manchester Mill on the water!
“We just fell in love with the building. It’s that simple,” said Dawn Donnelly when asked how she and her husband Ken decided to purchase the Manchester Mill.
They had been looking at properties around Manchester, planning to invest in the community and start a business, but they didn’t have anything specific in mind to start with. Now, the historic Manchester Mill, a cherished landmark dating back to almost 200 years to 1832, has been lovingly restored and reimagined by its new owners as a stunning event venue, Manchester Mill on the Water. This revitalization promises to breathe new life into the iconic gristmill and solidify Manchester’s potential as a destination for unforgettable celebrations.
“We wanted to honor the history of this incredible space while also creating a place where people can make unforgettable memories,” says Dawn. “The gristmill has always been a vital part of Manchester, and we’re honored to open its doors once again for the community to enjoy.”
“The venue and its staff look forward to serving those from Chelsea, Ann Arbor, Jackson, Saline and other nearby areas,” Dawn continues. “Manchester Mill on the Water is not just a beautiful space; the gristmill was the economic driver of Washtenaw County more than a century ago. Today, its historic charm and riverside location create an unforgettable setting for wedding ceremonies, receptions, corporate events, and private parties.”
Dawn is determined to respect the rich history of the location and are always looking for tidbits of information that can help them learn more. She has photos of the original Mill, as well as newer photos from the 1970s and 80s. Many of these are already framed and displayed around the venue, and she hopes many more can be. She’s most interested in learning about a visit from Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter, in the 1990s, and encourages anyone who might have information or photos of that visit to contact her, at the phone number or email shown below.
The venue can accommodate up to 140 guests, depending on the event. Licensed caterers, bartenders, photographers, DJ can work their magic in the facility, which includes a private bridal suite, a prep kitchen area, and a versatile indoor/outdoor venue. A groom’s suite will soon also be available on the lower level of the Mill, and landscaping green areas adjacent to the building will begin this spring. The unique floor-to-ceiling window in the main reception area that overlooks the Dam is another point of pride.
“I have so many plans and things I want to do,” Dawn said. “It’ll be a years-long project and we will just have to take all it in stride. Kenny and I have worked together to make this happen, and it’s been a great team!”
The building looks great inside and out and the transformation is not a subtle one. Those who are familiar with the “old mill” will be amazed. Call 734-210-9336 or email manchestermillonthewater@gmail.com for more information on a tour so you can see the transformation firsthand.
