The April showers did not keep back the inquisitive little mathematicians and scientists who came out for Luther C. Klager Elementary School’s Around the World with Math and Science Night on Friday, April 25.

Families of all ages poured in to explore with the teacher and support staff volunteers who stayed late to share the wonderful world of math and science with the children. There were some engaging return stations this year such as popcorn from Peru, Legos from Denmark, Magnatiles from Japan, and notebooks from Australia. New this year was building with popsicle sticks from North America, making African face masks, and a student and family wellness station.

As a special treat this year, the second grade Student Lighthouse Leaders presented the science of ice from the Arctic and children were able to paint a giant mural with ice cubes. Title 1 was also present with a return of their Michigan table and the chance to learn about authors from Michigan and practice reading labels from Michigan products.

Of course, no Math and Science Night would be complete without the High School Robotics Team sharing their robots with the children. At the end of the night, children were able to vote on their favorite station and share their ideas on the “graffiti” wall for what they would like to see next year. This year’s winning activity was the second grade Lighthouse team’s presentation about the science of ice.

The team of volunteers is looking forward to welcoming everyone back again next year on Friday, April 24, with more fun learning for all!
