Earth Day was more than just another day for U.S. Marine Corps veteran Don Dettling. Dettling received a new roof on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from Palmer Construction out of Lansing, an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor, as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.

Through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, Dettling, of Freedom Township, was selected and approved as the recipient for the roof replacement. The Owens Corning Foundation donated roofing materials and Palmer Construction is donating the labor.

The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project is a nationwide effort to show gratitude and to honor the veterans who served our country and the families who support them. Since the inception of this program in 2016, more than 650 military members have received new roofs.

“Owens Corning has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help qualify veterans for the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project,” said Samantha Vaught of Coyne PR.

A good deed done in a day by many partnerships working together to help a Manchester veteran. Job well done!

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley has been active in Washtenaw County since 1989.
