River Raisin Distillery, located at 480 West Main Street here in Manchester announced last week that we now have a new morning coffee option, and you don’t even need to get out of your vehicle for this one. Starting on Wednesday, June 4, the distillery now features, Bootleg Brews. Joe Jarvis, owner explained it as “a morning drive-up coffee window serving up high-quality drinks with a little River Raisin spirit (non-alcoholic of course.)” He continued, “It’s our way of bringing something fresh and fun to the community — a local spot for commuters, early risers, and school drop-offs to grab a great cup without the chain vibe.”
Bootleg brews is currently open Monday through Friday, 6am to noon to start with although the open hours may change in the future, and plan to be open year-round. In addition, all drinks on the Bootleg Brews menu will be available whenever the distillery is open.
Jarvis explained how the idea came about. He stated, “This has actually always been part of the long-term plan for the distillery. We wanted to make the most of our space during the early hours, not just in the evenings. With parking lot improvements on the horizon, it made sense to fully utilize the building all day — and coffee was a natural fit.”
Their coffee drink menu includes fresh drip coffee; cold brew; espresso-based drinks like lattes, americanos, cappuccinos, mochas, and many more; rotating monthly specials (for example: June’s highlight — Vanilla Latte with Strawberry & Cream Sweet Foam); and morning mojos which are caffeinated fruity drinks, like strawberry lemonade & mango pineapple. They also feature monthly flavored creamers for drip coffee —“ keeping things playful and seasonal”.
Their coffee beans are roasted in the area. Jarvis explained, “Musgrove & Company in Adrian, MI is roasting our beans, and in return, we’re supporting their spirits program at Maumee Taproom. It’s another great example of small businesses collaborating to lift each other up — and it keeps everything hyper-local and fresh.”
Something not on the Bootleg Brews menu is alcohol. Bootleg Brews is strictly coffee and non-alcoholic beverages during morning hours. Alcoholic drinks and bottle sales resume during normal distillery hours later in the day. However, that doesn’t mean no coffee cocktails. Jarvis stated, “the addition of coffee has opened up a whole new world of ingredients for our distillery menu — from espresso martinis to Irish coffees and other creative cocktail crossovers. It’s been fun for our team to experiment and expand what we offer.”
One thing to know before you arrive is that there is no seating during coffee hours. Jarvis states, “We’re drive-up only, with quick and friendly service. They accept cash, credit, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Jarvis concludes, “No need to be a distillery regular — we welcome anyone looking for great coffee with a local twist.”
