Shelby Ann Chartrand (January 26, 1985 – May 22, 2025)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shelby Ann (Trolz) Chartrand from complications of cancer on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at her home in Jackson.

Shelby was born on January 26, 1985, and raised in Manchester, the daughter of Daniel Trolz and Sandra (Krzyzaniak) Trolz. She was a member of the class of 2003 at Manchester High School and continued her education with a Bachelor of Arts from Central Michigan University and Master of Arts Degree at Eastern Michigan University. She married Ian Chartrand on October 1, 2011.

Shelby taught preschool and kindergarten in several local schools, most recently at Luther C. Klager Elementary in Manchester as a second-grade teacher. Her kindness and compassion was felt by all she encountered, and her smile lit up every classroom she walked into. She was a fun-loving, creative person who enjoyed all aspects of nature, learning, and life. She had an eclectic taste in music, which she always liked to share with others.

She is survived by her husband, Ian, and many immediate family members and friends, all of whom loved her deeply.

A memorial gathering at a local park is still in the planning stage for the coming months. In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations may be made to the greenhouse project at Klager Elementary School.

“I wish I was a butterfly, I could fly and see the sky” — From a song by Ween. Fly high, dear Shelby.
