Boy Scout Troop 426 in Manchester is a small, dedicated group of Scouts and leaders who are passionate about the values and adventures that Scouting brings to young people. Currently, the troop consists of just seven Scouts, and
“We are hoping to grow,” said Eoin Flaherty, one of the senior leaders of the troop.
Troop 426, based here in Manchester, offers boys the chance to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through hands-on learning and outdoor adventures. It’s a program that helps young people grow into confident leaders and responsible citizens. And, yes, they have fun doing it.
“Though we are a small troop of seven Scouts, we are very active throughout the year,” Eoin says. “From weekend campouts to exciting summer trips, there’s always something to look forward to. One of our favorite traditions is spending a week on Mackinac Island with Troop 111 from Lansing. During that trip, Scouts serve as Honor Guards, explore the island, and build friendships with other Scouts from across the state.”
Scouting is much more than camping and earning merit badges. It’s about leadership, community service, friendship, and growth. Through the troop’s activities, young men build confidence, learn practical skills, and develop into thoughtful, capable citizens. Troop 426 takes pride in offering those opportunities in a supportive, hands-on environment.
The Troop also takes pride in giving back to the Manchester community. The Boy Scouts volunteer regularly, including helping out at the cherished tradition of the annual Manchester Chicken Broil. These experiences not only bring them together as a group, but teach valuable life skills and a strong sense of service. a unique experience where each Scout has a chance to take on real leadership roles and form strong bonds with fellow Scouts. They participate in regular camping trips, service projects, and skills training, and are always working to give young boys and men memorable, meaningful experiences.
“Now, we’re looking to grow our troop and invite more youth to join us on this journey,” Eoin says. “Whether you’re looking for new challenges, outdoor adventure, or a place to make friends and grow, Scouting has something to offer.
“Scouting has made a big difference in each of our lives and we think it can do the same for others,” he continued. “But don’t just take our word for it.”
Here’s what a few of our Manchester Scouts have to say about how they’ve grown because of scouting, and why they would recommend someone to join Scouts.
Eoin (SPL): “I think my communication skills have grown, and that helps me in my daily life. I would recommend that someone join because scouting opens so many opportunities.”
Ben (PL): “I think I’ve grown in maturity and responsibility. Scouting will give you great life skills, and it looks good on paper, too.”
Christian (APL): “It’s made me try new things, and it has made me more mature. I would recommend someone to join because it teaches you practical skills.”
Gordon (APL): “I learned how to set up a tent and many other things. It’s fun.”
There are always lessons to be learned in life. Boy Scouting can enhance those learning opportunities, and it’s easy to join. The Troop is actively welcoming new members and would love to hear from families with boys who are interested in joining Scouting.

“We meet regularly in Manchester and are always open to visitors who want to see what Scouting is all about,” Eoin says.
