Opening on the school board, applicants needed

by Sara Swanson
Manchester Community Schools announced last week that it has a vacancy on the board of education. Sarah Roth, who began her first term on the school board in January, is resigning as she has applied for a job with the school district, which creates a conflict of interest. The Board of Education is inviting interested and eligible community members to apply by submitting the following letter of intent, affidavit of residency, and a resume no later than August 7, at 2pm. See notice with links to application and affidavit of residency HERE.
In order to be eligible to be a School Board member, applicants should be a citizen of the United States and a qualified and registered voter and have their primary legal residence in the Manchester Community School District.
The board will schedule interviews with all candidates on Monday, August 11, 2025, beginning at 6pm (and, if needed, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, beginning at 6pm) and will select an appointee immediately following the interviews. The appointee will be sworn in at the 6pm regular board meeting on August 18, 2025.
If you have any questions concerning the role of the board of education or the responsibilities of a board member, please contact Steve Head, Superintendent of Schools, at shead@mcs.k12.mi.us.
Correction, July 29, 2025: The article originally stated that Sarah Roth has been hired by the district but in fact is still in the application process.
