LaPointe honored as Region 8 Michigan Teacher of the Year

On Tuesday, August 12, Manchester educator Deidra LaPointe was recognized in Lansing as the Michigan Region 8 Teacher of the Year.

LaPointe, who teaches at Klager Elementary has devoted 13 professional years to the field of education. This year she embarks on her fourth year of teaching in Manchester Community Schools. LaPointe was initially drawn to education because she felt it was the place where she could do the most good in the world. During her dynamic years in education, she has been devoted to building relationships that help support the whole child in the classroom. She has been dedicated to supporting families as they learn and grow together. Thanks to her years of experience, she has now grown into the role of mentor, walking with her peers when they first enter the field of education.

The next year proves to be an exciting immersive experience for LaPointe as she brings her voice and knowledge of education to policymakers in Lansing. She will serve on state education committees, present at conferences around the state of Michigan, and participate in action research with her fellow regional Michigan teachers of the year.

During her year of service, LaPointe is looking forward to highlighting the great things happening at Manchester Community Schools in Lansing. She is also excited about the opportunity to grow as an educator and advocate for her students and families at the next level of her profession.
