In 1995, Manchester held its first CROP Hunger Walk. CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations and groups to raise funds to reduce hunger at home and around the world. Over the last 30 years, Manchester has raised more than $160,000 to combat hunger with an annual CROP Walk.

Unfortunately, this year’s organizer, Mary Vigilanti, has broken her arm and has to step down from her position. She is looking for another individual, church, or community group to take over. She has materials to aid in the organization of the walk she can hand over to the new organizer. Additionally, there are great resources to help in organizing a walk at https://resources.crophungerwalk.org/. This year’s Manchester CROP Walk has tentatively been scheduled for October 5, so it’s only a month and a half away.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised by the local CROP Hunger Walk will stay here in Manchester and support programs run by the Community Resource Center, Manchester Family Services, and the Manchester Area Senior Citizens Council. If you are interested in helping continue this three decades-long tradition and helping Manchester feed hungry people here and around the world, call Mary Vigilanti at 734-428-8218.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
