Each August, American 1 Credit Union posts an open $500 grant competition for educators. The grant reaches educators in Calhoun, Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties. This year they are awarding a total of $7,500 to 15 educators and Melissa Yekulis at Klager Elementary School was one of the lucky recipients! Yekulis submitted a grant request to acquire social studies materials for her new first-grade classroom. She is using the funds to purchase play food and a cash register for the new play store her classroom family funded through Donors Choose. She is also acquiring social studies learning centers built around Michigan first-grade social studies standards of geography, economy, civics, and history.

She states, “I am incredibly grateful for the generosity, kindness, and support the team at American 1 Credit Union has shared with me during the grant funding experience and am excited to make social studies a hands-on learning experience for my students.”

Congratulations, Miss Yekulis!
