Heather Cox Richard, an American historian writer, recently mentioned in a YouTube video the importance of small town protests. Our group, 4-Corners Protectors, are doing the work she speaks of. Many in our community do not participate in protests or have access to truthful political news. They will not be at October 18 national protests across the country and around the world. Because of the media’s lack of accountability, there may not be media protest coverage during and after. However, they will see and be influenced by our presence the day before, Friday, October 17, from 4pm to 5:30pm, at the 4-Corners to peacefully resist.

Our presence reminds our community that resistance is alive and well, that we are not thugs and enemies from within, and that we will exercise our Freedom of Speech rights to speak out. We each have various concerns and beliefs, but we stand together for justice and peace for ALL people and our earth.

  • Our presence speaks truth to power to share and remind people where the power resides.
  • Our presence demonstrates that fear can be overcome and anxiety quelled by joining together, joining our voices and physical selves.
  • Our presence shows “No! Stripping healthcare from us, reducing government oversight to empower the rich, declaring protesters as enemies is not acceptable.”

It’s our turn to protect ALL people and change the tide. Talk to people during our gathering. See you there.

Share the message of peaceful resistance. Join us.

Know your rights to protest on public sidewalks and learn about de-escalation strategies. Information and trainings are online. ACLU is a good resource. Photo courtesy of Margaret Shaw.

Do not engage or be provoked, remain calm, slow speech and movements, move away, ignore, witness, record if possible. Photo courtesy of Margaret Shaw.
