Adult Learners Institute (ALI) Michigan concludes its fall 2025 season with five November classes. Look for ALI Michigan again in the spring when we will offer more enrichment classes for adults in the 5HealthyTowns area of Chelsea, Dexter, Grass Lake, Manchester, and Stockbridge.

The legendary Beatles wrote over 200 songs that have become popular worldwide. Bill O’Reilly, a lifelong fan, has gathered stories and photos for a visual and musical presentation: The Beatles—Stories Behind the Songs. Bill will take you behind the scenes, sharing what inspired them, the meanings behind the lyrics, and how they evolved. This in-person class is FREE, offered in cooperation with the Chelsea District Library where it will meet one Saturday, November 1. You must register by calling the Chelsea District Library at 734-475-8732, ext. 219.

After moving into a 1920s house in Ann Arbor’s Old West Side, Grace Shackman began her study of towns and historical places in western Washtenaw County. She continues her series of ALI classes with a History of Saline and Manchester, in which she explains how these two towns differ. This in-person class is presented in cooperation with Washtenaw Community College, and will be held on two Wednesdays, November 5 and 12, at the Manchester District Library.

Do you ever wonder about the veracity of local legends and ghost stories? Jasen A. King, a paranormal enthusiast, will trace some of these tales back to actual events with Chelsea Area Ghost Stories, Legends, and Historical Events. You can judge for yourself what’s fact and what’s fiction. The in-person class will be held on three Thursdays, November 6, 13, and 20, at the Chelsea Retirement Community, Dancey Bldg.

Would you like to know how to make your own spinach, cheese, or meat pies in your home? Tamara El-Khatib, the owner of Syrian Soul Catering, will show you with Mediterranean Savory Pies! This in-person demonstration and tasting class will be held on two Fridays, November 7 and 14, at the Chelsea Retirement Community, Dancey Bldg.

After attorney Peter Van Hoek retired, he and his wife found time to indulge their love of travel. On Tuesday, November 11, Peter will share one of the most interesting vacations he has experienced in Travelogue through New Zealand. In this in-person and Zoom class at the Chelsea State Bank (downtown office), Peter will concentrate on New Zealand’s history, the Maori indigenous people, the current culture, and incredible scenery in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Online registration is available through ALI-Michigan’s website, www.alimichigan.org. There you will find complete class information, and can register and make payment for classes. For further information, email info@alimichigan.org or write to ALI Michigan, PO Box 134, Chelsea, MI 48118.
