We aren’t posting articles to Facebook anymore but you still can

by Sara Swanson and Marsha Chartrand
We made the decision last week to stop posting our articles to our Facebook page. We are making this change for two reasons. First, we have to share articles to FB manually, which can take up to an hour on a day without posting problems and much longer when there are posting issues. Second, Facebook’s algorithm changes all the time. In its current iteration it seems to favor sponsored and suggested posts and doesn’t necessarily show you posts from pages you follow. We’ve watched the number of views and shares directly from our Facebook page drop to a fraction of where they had been at the peak. We are also able to track the number of FB shares an article gets and the vast majority originate directly from our website and not from our Facebook page.
As always, our articles will continue to be published online Monday mornings on our website, www.themanchestermirror.com, and will continue to be shareable by clicking the FB share button at the bottom of each article. We recognize that you may miss having an article pop up in your Facebook feed to remind you to go to the website to catch up on the weekly news, so we wanted to let you know that you can have every article that is published emailed to you as soon as it is published. You can sign up for this free service by scrolling down to the bottom of the homepage and entering your email address where it says “Subscribe to Blog via Email”.
We also know that Facebook Messenger was a preferred method of communication for some. We will do our best to still check it, but the most reliable way to contact us is to send us an email at themanchestermirror@gmail.com or a text at 734-328-1386.
Please check us out directly on our site, subscribe to the articles through email, or pick up a print copy of the paper for free Wednesday afternoons. We hope this change isn’t too disruptive and appreciate your readership!
