Food Gatherers was recently awarded a Farm Bureau Double-Up Donation to fight food insecurity in the community. Washtenaw County Farm Bureau plans to make a $1,662 donation to help the food bank purchase food for neighbors in need. The Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) has committed to a matching $1,500 donation, for a total of $3,162 donated to the food bank.
Washtenaw County Farm Bureau has been a longtime supporter of Food Gatherers and is proud to continue coming alongside in service. As Washtenaw County Farm Bureau Young Farmer Chair Erica Drake says, “We have partnered with Food Gatherers for the past six years to fight food insecurity in our county. They have a vast network of volunteers, community partners, and resources to make their mission possible. Among one of this year’s inspiring statistics — this past summer, they were able to serve 71,000 summer meals to kids.”
The ACF Double-Up Donation Program supports county Farm Bureaus’ efforts to end hunger in their communities by providing matching funds to local organizations and programs which represent the ACF mission. County Farm Bureaus initiate the nomination and donation process, and the selected program is approved for an ACF matching donation by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the organization, population being served, and overall goal of the program.
