On Friday, February 13, Luther C. Klager Elementary hosted its second American Heart Association Assembly. The children arrived enthusiastically at the gym with their stuffed animals, ready to learn how to save a life by practicing hands-only CPR. Margo Tramel, from the American Heart Association, was again on hand to walk the children through how to be Heart Heroes and the process of providing hands-only CPR. Children grades Young 5s through second grade worked together, practicing compressions to engaging music on their stuffed animals.

The assembly served as a mid-point in the school’s fundraising campaign for the American Heart Association. Funds raised will go toward grant funding in heart health research, with most funds remaining in the state of Michigan, including the University of Michigan. As of publication, 55 students are registered in the Heart Heroes program. $12,173 have been raised so far. If you are interested in joining the families and children at Klager in becoming a Heart Hero, log on to http://www2.heart.org/goto/klager.
