Manchester-area seniors have been receiving funding for minor home repairs! Public domain image.

We reported back in September that the Manchester Senior Citizens Council is able to fund minor home repairs using Washtenaw County senior millage funding. Since then they’ve been able to provide funding and contractors for several city residents with plumbing, electrical, and heat tape problems. They’ve also added even more ways to apply and a step to ensure confidentiality.

Confidentiality is kept through board member Barry Osterbur, who is in charge of the process. Rev. Osterbur gave more details: “The MSCC policy allows applicants to apply every six months for funding up to $1,000, based on income eligibility. Requests for funding exceeding that amount could qualify for a variance approval from the MASCC board. Upon submission of an application and quote from a licensed contractor (preferably local), requests will be reviewed by the MASCC board and approved or denied with cause.”

Because this is funded through senior millage dollars, recipients must be over 60 years of age and live in Washtenaw County to be eligible for services. Stop by the Senior Center (912 City Rd) to pick up an application or call or leave a message at the Senior Center at 734-212-3080 or email Rev. Osterbur at homerepair@msccinc.org.

Rev. Osterbur states, “As we age, maintaining a safe, comfortable, and functional home becomes increasingly important. … 2026 may be the time for making a small repair in your home, too.”
