The Men’s Club has generously donated funds for Brownie troop 40938 to purchase stepping stones for three retiring teachers, Karin Villarreal, Bryan Barnard, and Ron Tindall, as well as a commemorative bench for Shelby Chartrand, a beloved teacher who recently passed away.
“We will also be adding several new plants to the area and planting a Magnolia tree, which was donated by Peter Katke of New Leaf Landscaping in Shelby’s honor,” explained Jami Kile, Troop leader. “McLennan Landscape also offered to donate mulch for the project.”
Arriving on Thursday afternoon, there was a beehive of activity, with a dozen or more Brownies and siblings running about with small gardening tools to plant flats filled with flowers donated by Fusilier Farms in front of the Klager sign, and a good-size group of parents digging a hole for the magnolia tree in the circle drive, which had just been delivered.
As they say, “It takes a village …,” and that was very true of this project. A lot of collaboration went into organizing the many details required to bring everything together. Ann Arwin, Klager parent, coordinated the overall endeavor. In addition to the above-mentioned businesses who donated plants, mulch, and the huge magnolia tree, labor and stepping stones were provided by the Girl Scouts of troop 40938. The Men’s Club donated $658.08 for the bench, plants, edging, and fabric.
The bench in honor of Shelby Chartrand, coming next week, will say:
“In memory or our
Beloved Teacher, Shelby Chartrand
Planting seeds of wisdom
That will grow forever.”
