The Manchester District Library is inviting families to dig into a summer of reading, discovery, and adventure with its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story.” The season begins with a free Summer Reading Kick-Off Party on Thursday, June 18 from 6pm to 8pm, at Wurster Park, located at 215 W. Main Street in Manchester. Families will have the opportunity to register for the library’s summer reading program, enjoy crafts and activities, and learn about the exciting events planned throughout the summer.

This year’s theme, “Unearth a Story,” will transport readers back in time through a variety of dinosaur and prehistoric-themed programs. Participants can look forward to hands-on dinosaur crafts, fossil-inspired activities, prehistoric adventures, educational challenges, and plenty of opportunities to discover new books and stories throughout the summer months.

The evening’s festivities will continue with a special performance beginning at 7pm by Gemini, one of Michigan’s most beloved children’s music groups. Known for their engaging blend of music, storytelling, humor, and audience participation, Gemini has entertained families across the Midwest for decades. Families are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of music under the summer sky. The concert also serves as the first of the season of the library’s popular Free Summer Gazebo Concert Series, sponsored by the Friends of the Manchester District Library.

“We’re excited to welcome families to another summer filled with reading, creativity, and fun,” said library staff. “Whether you’re signing up for Summer Reading, making a dinosaur craft, or dancing along with Gemini, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”

The event is free and open to all ages.
