Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers needed for Manchester

by Colleen A. McKenney
Meal on Wheels provides meals to the elderly and home bound twice a week in the Manchester area. This service is provided by the Chelsea Senior Center but currently they are in need of Manchester area delivery volunteers!
Carol Wotring, executive director of the Community Resource Center provided the following details:
Delivery drivers are needed for Mondays and/or Thursdays from approximately 10:30am to 1pm. The Manchester area is divided between 2 routes with 10 residents split between the two routes. Currently route 1 driver picks up all of the meals for both routes at the Chelsea Senior Center, drives back to Manchester and meets the route 2 driver at a designated meeting point, then the two drivers deliver their meals.
Volunteers must undergo a background check and provide references, have reliable transportation with proof of valid automobile insurance, and be confident driving in various weather conditions and on occasionally challenging roads/driveways (although you are never expected to deliver in conditions you feel are unsafe.) The program follows Chelsea School District’s inclement weather policy – if Chelsea’s schools are closed, meals are not delivered that day.
Please reach out to the Chelsea Senior Center at 734-475-9242 or email at Connected@ChelseaSeniors.org with any questions or if you’re able to assist! Additionally, if you know anyone in the Manchester or Chelsea school districts who might benefit from Meals on Wheels services, please refer them to the program.
