In 2020 Manchester installed a variety of large play equipment in Wurster Park, in River Raisin Park, along the multi-use trail, and outside the Manchester District Library including large musical instruments, giant mushrooms, a big stopwatch to time yourself with, climbing wall, huge turtle, and benches. This was the result of hard work of Village Council members, a grant from Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, and help of KABOOM! The City of Manchester will once again be partnering with both organizations and will be installing more equipment this August but this time designed specifically for teens and seniors citizens!

The intergenerational outdoor playspace will include a custom obstacle course and outdoor exercise equipment and will be located behind City Hall, 912 City Road which conveniently also houses the Manchester District Library and the Manchester Senior Center.

What equipment exactly… hasn’t been decided yet.  Michael Sessions, City manager stated “We are seeking your input and ideas to help shape these spaces.”

The City is holding two “Design Day” sessions at the Manchester Senior Center on Wednesday, July 8. The first, intended for youth, will run from 4pm to 5pm. The second, intended for adults/seniors, will run from 5pm to 6:30pm. Sessions added that “participants are welcome to attend either session.” Pizza and refreshments will be provided.
