Sen. Sue Shink talks with residents at Watkins Lake State Park & County Preserve

June 15, State Senator Sue Shink who represents Freedom and Sharon townships in the Manchester area came to Watkins Lake State Park which spans Manchester and Norvell Townships for her third Walk and Talk event, held this year. She was joined by Ben Spiegel, Watkins Lake Unit Supervisor at the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR). Community members were invited to walk the trail with them. 

Sen. Shink, Chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources provided updates on her work to fund outdoor recreation in District 14, as well as preserving Michigan’s farmland and historical sites. “I’m always excited to join constituents outside and enjoy the beautiful parks our district has to offer,”she stated. 

She also listened as residents voiced their  concerns about environmental issues facing their community, including the proposed gravel mine in Norvell Township next to the park and went on to share links to the websites of Irish Hills Concerned Citizens  and Friends of Watkins Lake in here legislative update email.
