Superintendent Head resigning due to health

Manchester Community Schools superintendent Steven Head announced last week that he is resigning effective July 31, 2026, due to health concerns.
He stated in an email that went out to the MCS community, “As many of you know, I have been struggling with health issues all year, and recently, my health concerns have heightened. This has been an incredibly difficult decision to reach, but after talking with my family and my doctors, I have to prioritize my health.”
Head was selected as superintendent after a four-month-long process including seven candidates, then three finalists, last June. He replaced Brad Bezeau, who served as superintendent for five years.
Head stated, “Serving as the Superintendent of MCS has been an absolute honor. I have really enjoyed my time leading the district and collaborating with such a dedicated group of educators, staff members, and board members this last year. I will greatly miss working alongside all of you every day supporting our kids.”
School board president Sandra Wiitala explained that for the immediate future the board will need to declare an interim superintendent, who will serve in that capacity officially beginning August 1. They have a regularly scheduled board meeting today, July 20, after which they will have more to share on plans moving forward to permanently fill the position.
Head committed to working closely with the board and administrative team over the next couple of weeks to hand over his responsibilities smoothly. He concluded, “Thank you for your unwavering support, understanding, and partnership during my tenure. MCS is a remarkable district with a bright future, and I wish you all the best moving forward.”
