July 28: Precautionary boil water advisory for city west of river

Earlier today, Tuesday, July 28, the City of Manchester completed a planned valve repair in downtown Manchester. Customers directly affected by the scheduled water shutdown received mailed notifications and door notices in advance of the work.
During the repair, the City has since learned that reducing a valve that was not directly part of the repair may have temporarily affected water service in additional areas of the community beyond those originally identified. Although it appears that water pressure remained above 20 psi in the immediate work area, some properties west of the River Raisin may have experienced a brief loss of water or significantly reduced water pressure.
Out of an abundance of caution, the City is issuing a precautionary boil water advisory for customers west of the River Raisin until further notice.
The City has collected water quality samples, which are currently being analyzed by a certified laboratory. If testing confirms the water meets all State of Michigan drinking water standards, the precautionary boil water advisory is expected to be lifted on the morning of Thursday, July 30.
During the advisory, residents in the affected area should boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, preparing food, making ice, brushing teeth, or any other consumption purposes.
The City appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding as we complete this work and verify the safety of the water supply. Additional updates will be provided as laboratory results become available.
